Random photo from internet to catch attention
I just met a 13 year-old boy who is very into cars. He needs opportunities beyond video games to engage with auto culture, and I want to guide him to visit a Cars and Coffee style meet. I need Oppo hivemind help.
I appreciate that his dream cars are a Ford GT or a 65 Cobra. He tried to correct me on the fact that the Cayman is mid-engined, which was kind of cute.
Who can provide the best info on how his dad can find a meet near Louisville, KY?
What I found is last Saturday of the month at Gateway classic cars in Memphis, IN, but I don’t know if this is the right one to recommend. Seems a bit far away.
Thanks for any help! Right now he may become a stanced STI owner, and I need to show him the glorious diversity of what cars may become.

Have them go to an autocross, they can check out the cars and usually even get rides: http://kyscca.com/soloautocross/autocross-schedule/ looks like the local SCCA chapter.
A free day of amateur racing where you can even ride along during the race is hard to beat.

I can’t find a Facebook page, but as of last year Louisville had a Cars and Coffee.

Best to double check date/time/location as some ads get posted 6mo+ and weather delays.

I was explaining auto cross to him, it wasn’t grabbing his attention, but it would be best.
There may also be limitations. My club does not permit those under 16 (I think) in the grid or on course unless competing in junior karts.

Yep, that’s what I found, too.

Autocross on paper sounds a little lame; however, autox in person is amazing. Here is my sister in law ridding in my then stock (except for wheels and tires) BRZ.
I’ve had passengers scream in terror, threaten to throw up if I didn’t slow down, and high five me when I went to turn off the camera.
Here is an older video of my sister riding with me, she doesn’t like to go fast in cars.
And the same run from outside the car:
It’s also fun to get there early and see all the cars in grid. You can also talk to everybody and get a great look at all the cars.

Encourage his father to buy this as the boys first car, in a CVT of course. Sorry.......... I’m in the mood to crush people’s souls.

Keeneland Concours in Lexington on July 15. http://www.keenelandconcours.com/
They used to have a Lousville Concours at Churchill Downs, but they moved it to French Lick, IN

Also, speed shops. Btr is in bardstown and I can arrange a visit if he’s into engine stuff. My own Summit Racing equipment in Ohio or Georgia is an option as well.

Unfortunately I’m not local and his dad’s interest is very limited, but these suggestions are great. I’m buddies with the kid’s uncle, so I don’t have a direct connection to the dad.
